Genes, Cells and Brains: The Promethean Promises of the New Biology Hilary and Steven Rose explore how and why the extravagant claims made by the bioscience industry have so far produced so few tangible benefits either to human health or to the advancement of human understanding. It’s a rather blood-curdling story of how conceptually flawed science has been co-opted and corrupted by the greed of large corporations. Steven Rose, Professor of Biology and Neurobiology at the Open University and University of London and his wife Hilary, currently Visiting Research Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and a distinguished sociologist of science, will be at the shop to discuss their book and their ideas. Science writer and campaigner for freedom of expression Lisa Appignanesi will be in the chair.
