John Wyatt, illustrated by Norman Ackroyd, introduced by Melvyn Bragg
In 1961 John Wyatt became the first warden of the Lake District National Park, and served as its chief ranger for 25 years. The Shining Levels, his first book, was described by Roly Smith in his Guardian obituary for Wyatt as being 'one of the finest books ever written on the Lake District, expressing in flowing, lyrical prose his first love affair with an area that was to be his actual and spiritual home for the rest of his life.' This new edition is illustrated with a selection of Norman Ackroyd's glorious Lakeland etchings, and the cover is a detail from a painting by L.S. Lowry.
