London Review Cake Shop

‘A haven for bookworms and tea connoisseurs alike’

– Time Out

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 12 to 5.30 p.m.

Last orders half an hour before closing

Currently on the menu: we’ve been serving up some warm winter flavours – like our sweet potato and feta stew (topped with smoked paprika, heaps of fresh coriander and dollops of crème fraiche), or the Iranian-style chicken stew with sour cherries and walnuts. Our soup menu includes, amongst others, celeriac infused with thyme pesto and served with wholemeal toasts. Our sandwiches are a little more substantial too, for the colder months: roast beef and Stilton has been astoundingly popular, and we’re also loving duck with papaya and orange chutney. For the sweet-toothed, there’s ginger cake served warm with toffee sauce, while bread and butter pudding with custard is back once a week.

Terry Glover

Since opening in autumn 2007, we’ve been able to expand on our ideas, inviting in new and specialist teas and finding new bakers to produce our lovely cakes. For example, there’s Nick Fu, who brings us the delicious fig tart, and now quiches too. We’re still retaining our favourites, of course, including Manna Vegetarian Restaurant, who are now providing fresh seasonal soups, as well as the much-loved blueberry tea cake.

Events on the other side of the history section, in the main Bookshop, are better catered these days too – come along to a late opening (usually the first Wednesday of the month) and see for yourself.
